For a long time I wished that Ian would contact me, knowing that he wouldn’t. I knew that our relationship had ended- sadly, but reasonably- and that there was no chance of rekindling it.
Then, just as Ian tends to do, he emails me (a copy of his message is below).
“So when…did you get into gene? On another note, the entire scope of my novel has expanded to much more epic proportions. can you believe it? its been quite awhile since we last spoke. how is your writing coming? gene, uk 90’s?”
Actually, I started listening to Gene around the time Ian stopped talking to me. It reminded me of thee holy trinity, as Ian called it.
I asked my mother and Miller if I should respond, and they agree that I shouldn’t (for different reasons). I’ve been wanting and waiting for this letter for ages, but in order to be a good and respectful girlfriend, I am choosing to let the letter lie.

Here are some pictures of Austin and I at the park:

I’ve been feeling sort of depressed… headachey, nauseous. I decided to see a writer for a diagnosis and was prescribed The Brit Box UK Indie, Shoegaze and Brit-Pop Gems of the Last Millenium cd’s.
Disc one opens with The Smiths How Soon is Now, followed by Cocteau Twin’s Lorelei and Felt’s Primitive Painters. There are four discs to the collection with bands like The La’s, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jesus & Mary Chain, and Mighty Lemon Drops (that is just on the first disc). By the time I got to My Bloody Valentine’s Only Shallow I was feeling a little more settled- in the stomach. I wasn’t happy, I was depressed, but calm.
Earlier today I went and saw Dark Knight.
Heath Leger played a wonderful Joker, just like everyone said he would. It had a nice presentation, good coloring, casting, and the Joker’s costumes were absolutely beautiful. Austin told me that they lacked some “classic necessities” (a “sun flower or something”), but he has never been a fan of DC comics. He has become too attached to Marvel… A sun flower would have brought Dark Knight to the sad level of our previous Batman films. Past directors have always felt it needed a cartoony-ness to it because it was a comic book. They don’t realize that Batman comics are about corruption and darkness. I’ve always felt this is what Marvel lacked- that’s part of the reason I never really got into them. The stories are set in Gotham City, our protagonist is disguised as a bat. There is an obviousness to it that no one seems to really grasp!
Everyone has been going crazy over the Dark Knight film. I think that we owe a lot of credit to Christopher Nolan, the director, and to Heath Leger, for his performance as the Joker. I won’t say that it is the first Batman film they did right, but I will say that it was very close.

For future reference, I’d like to see Harley Quinn in one/some of the movies. She has always been one of my favorite female characters in the series and I’m surprised she hasn’t been used sooner. Daryl Hannah’s character in Blade Runner reminded me of her a lot. If I were to cast someone to play Harleen now, I would probably choose someone like Kirsten Dunst or Reese Witherspoon.
On the topic of movies, Twilight is due in theaters this December, an adaptation of a popular vampire series. My older sister, Tess, has been reading them while she visits from Arizona and loves them.
I’ve been meaning to read them too, but I haven’t gotten around to it. I always feel weary of vampire books. I read a lot of them during the eighth grade after I met Aden (Shadowheart) on a vampire chat room. He was an online love interest of mine (haha). Eighth grade- to be young and think you are in love. ![]()
As I was saying, I have read a lot of vampire books and I still haven’t found one I enjoyed throughly, apart from Dracula. I would read other stories, quite harmoniously, but never thought they were well-written. The plots were predictable, vampires coexisting with humans, etc, etc. Occasionally other creatures were thrown into the mix (most often a werewolf). In the end, I lost interest in them.
Meanwhile, The Twilight series has been thriving. Harry Potter fans are converting to it as an alternative to the boy-wizard (the seven book series ended last year). I know I’ll have to read it at some point, but for now, I’ll stick with my short stories (Carver’s Will You Please Be Quiet, Please? I’ve only read it about four times).
